About Payables Pro — 30 Years of Accounts Payable Expertise

30 YearsAP Experience
Fortune 100AP Manager
Chairman's AwardRecipient

I have 30 years of accounts payable experience, finishing my corporate career as an AP Manager at a Fortune 100 company where I supported some of the largest names in tech and finance — and earned a Chairman's Award for leading operations implementation in Japan for a large multi-national company with a presence almost everywhere.

Over three decades I've worked across a wide range of industries — retail, logistics, insurance, staffing, government, education, banking, food service, and wholesale distribution. That breadth means I've seen nearly every AP challenge a business can face, at every scale.

Payables Pro exists because 30 years of Fortune 100 AP experience shouldn't stay locked inside corporate finance departments. Most AP content online is written for large teams with dedicated departments and ERP systems. That's not you.

You're a small business owner paying vendors, contractors, and suppliers yourself — juggling invoices, watching for fraud, and managing cash flow while running everything else. That's a different problem, and it deserves a direct answer.

Payables Pro Team

I've been doing this since I was a teenager.

My dad was a tax CPA, and he used to pull me in to help during audits — mostly data entry at first. I was reconciling bank statements before I even had a real job. So this isn't a career I found later in life. I grew up inside it.

Two things became obvious quickly. One, I did not want to do tax, ever. Two, I liked the operational side much more — payroll, AR, procurement, the general ledger. The stuff where something's always a little broken and you have to figure out why. I ended up fluent in most of it, but AP is where I stuck.

The fraud instinct isn't new — it's inherited.

Before I ever dealt with a fake vendor invoice, I watched my dad handle scammers trying to fish for information. Same instinct every time: verify what you can, don't hand over anything extra, pay attention instead of just reacting. Turns out AP fraud runs on the exact same playbook.

The wildest case I've personally encountered: someone walked into a bank with fabricated IDs and opened accounts under our owner's name. We caught it — but almost by luck. Mail started showing up referencing accounts we'd never opened, with names that didn't line up.

That's really the whole lesson. It's not fancy software that catches this. It's an AP manager who knows their accounts cold — how many there are, where they are, sometimes even the last few digits — because they're reconciling them every month. When you know your numbers that well, anything off just jumps out.

Why now.

A few years into managing AP teams, I lost two family members fairly close together. It stopped me in my tracks. I realized how much of myself I'd been handing over to my job — more than I wanted to admit — at the cost of my family and my own health.

I'm not a self-promoter by nature. I've always figured the work speaks for itself. But I realized I could take what I already knew — AP, fraud prevention, the instincts my dad passed down — and hand it directly to the people who need it most: small business owners without an AP department or a fraud team watching their back.

That's Payables Pro. Not consulting calls, not a seminar. Just practical guides that give you what you need to protect your own business, the same way I'd have trained anyone on my own team. Because helping someone once fixes a problem. Giving them the judgment to catch it themselves next time — that's the actual job.

These guides are designed specifically for small business owners and entrepreneurs — not for enterprise AP teams or corporate finance departments. No fluff. No jargon. Just clear, actionable guidance built on 30 years of doing this work for real, now distilled for business owners like you.
